[align=center]PROLOGUE[/align]

It was the final match of the Kanto Grand Festival. An amazing contest that tested the skill and beauty of both the pokemon and its trainer had entered its climax. The final 2 trainers were possibly the best in Pokemon Contest history. They were May and Drew. The match itself had entered into its climax, one pokemon left on each side, both at half points and only 60 seconds remained on the clock.
They release their final pokemon. May shouts, “GOOO!!! BLAZIKEN!!” A brilliant humanoid shaped, red light appeared before her. It started to take shape and the red light is replaced by a magnificent creature, a tall, red colored, humanoid rooster that resembles the Egyptian god Ra. Its feet are like massive pile drivers with its bird like claws hidden underneath. Its 3 clawed arms appear to be exposed with the wrists surrounded in flame like hair. Its head has a beaked mouth and a crested ‘V’ on the forehead. Just behind, starting from the back of the head are a pair of bony and feather covered structures which go all the way down to its waist and could be mistaken for wings. It lets out a mighty roar as a stream of flame spews from its mouth. Blaziken, the cock fighter, whose sense of honor is as deep as its flames are hot.

Drew was impressed; he would finally get to battle May’s Blaziken which had just evolved in the last match. Though he wouldn’t dare show it on his face, instead he just smirked and released his own pokemon. Another bright red light appeared before him, it started to take the shape of a large dog. The light was replaced by an equally magnificent creature, a large white wolf with matted hair. A black face with a crescent shaped black horn where an ear would be. Red eyes, a black pearl on its forehead and a downward white crescent opposite to the black one. The area around the neck and chest is covered in a mane. Its feet have 3 claws each and it has an almost triangular tail. A dark aura surrounds it as it gives out a howl, Absol, the pokemon which foretells doom.

If a poet saw this scene, he would exclaim that this was a battle between ‘great evil’ and ‘great good’ although this was just a friendly battle between 2 pokemon of god-like status. The clock begins to tick and the battle commences. Drew shouts, “ABSOL!! Use Razor Wind!” Absol immediately stands on one foot and starts to spin in a tight circle with its crescent facing front, preparing to create a mini tornado, May makes her move, “Blaziken! FIRE PUNCH!” Blaziken streaks forward while its fist goes ablaze. It reaches Drew’s Absol but before it can strike, Absol disappears. Blaziken is clearly shocked as it skids to a halt and looks back to find its opponent. From out of nowhere a concentrated blast of wind hits Blaziken and tosses it to the other side of the stadium. Absol suddenly reappears on the opposite end, looking pleased. Blaziken flares up, visibly angry at the ‘cheap’ tactic. May order’s another attack, “Blaziken! BLAZE KICK!” Blaziken makes an impressive leap into the air and streaks towards Absol like a comet. Drew retaliates, “ABSOL! QUICK ATTACK!!” Absol starts to run in the direction of Blaziken, almost becoming a blur. It jumps up to strike; however, Blaziken manages to smash it to the ground. The impact caused a small crater in which a dust covered Absol lay, hurt badly. Drew sees an opportunity, “ABSOL!! SLASH HIM!!” Absol immediately regains its composure and slashes Blaziken with its sharp crescent causing a visible cut in its chest. Blaziken clutches its chest in pain. May herself flares up and screams, “BLAZIKEN! DONT GIVE UP! FIRE PUNCH!!” Drew shouts immediately, “ABSOL! DOUBLE TEAM” Blaziken attempts the punch but misses as Absol starts to run in a tight circle around him making fake shadow clones appear.

Blaziken becomes confused and infuriated. It starts to punch thin air in frustration, trying to hit the real Absol. Drew commands Absol to use SLASH again. Absol appears right behind Blaziken but just before it strikes May screams, “LOOK OUT! BEHIND YOU!!” In an amazing show of reflexes, Blaziken turns 180 degrees and delivers a massive SKY UPPERCUT, its hits Absol squarely in the chest, tossing him straight in the air which makes him let out a loud and painful yelp in pain. Everybody who saw this scene is utterly shocked and amazed. Drew and May glare at each other. Drew shouts, “ABSOL!! SLASH!! Even though Absol was in mid-air, he was not helpless. Absol curled up into a tight ball with its crescent horn sticking out and races towards Blaziken. May told him to move, but Blaziken was stunned due to pain. Absol came down hard and slashed again causing another slash on its chest causing an ‘X’ to appear.
Absol and Blaziken stare each other down, sweating, panting. A burned, bruised Absol and a slashed & cut Blaziken. Drew and May simultaneously ordered their final moves; “BLIZZARD” “OVERHEAT” respectively. Absol flared up it’s lungs and started to spin rapidly, attempting to create an icy tornado, while Blaziken stood with its torso curled trying to amass all the heat energy he had inside of him. Then suddenly a loud and irritating noise started to emanate throughout the stadium. It was the ‘time up’ bell. The match was over, the winner was to be decided. Absol and Blaziken, having heard the sound many times, stopped immediately and collapsed due to the pressure. May and Drew withdrew their pokemon waiting for the Lillian to declare the result, though it was blankly obvious. As the announcer Lillian proceeded to speak; an abominable lull fell over the stadium.

[align=center]Chapter 1: Consequences[/align]

Everything became deathly quiet. Then suddenly, a united sound started to ring throughout the stadium. When May and Drew looked towards the audience, they saw that they were clapping but in an unusual manner. It started to get louder and louder until everyone started to clap their hands twice and slap their thighs once in unison. Everybody was doing it and then they started to chant the song which makes any and every performer smile with glee.

May and Drew looked at each other and started to smile at the appreciation. They promptly start to strut towards each other and Lillian who was holding the cup. They grab a handle each and lift the cup above their heads as the audience begins to cheer loudly and Lillian provides her closing comments, “There you are ladies and gentlemen. This year’s Kanto Grand Festival champion tie Drew and May!! Hope you enjoyed the show and stay back for the celebration party in the stadium grounds.”
The most heated Kanto Grand Festival that had ever taken place was officially over and now everybody was enjoying the party. The party was what every party should be loud and wild. Celebrity Disco Jockey, DJ Aqueel, himself a Contest fan provided the loud music and everyone danced wildly to his tunes. May, Ash, Max, Brock were all dancing with glee. Even Drew, Saori and Robert who usually train more and celebrate less decided to let themselves go. Spectators, participants and their well wishers were all enjoying themselves, except for one fellow who stood brooding in the darkness. He was wearing what can only be described as an outfit resembling the cactus pokemon, Cacturne.

The outfit was basically a large 2 piece costume light green in color with dark green patches on the jacket and pants. He was wearing a dark purple shirt underneath his jacket, all this topped off with an almost clown like dark green hat that ended in a point. His name was Harley, a good coordinator and May’s second contest rival aside from Drew. This is was a man to be loathed. Cold, ruthless and well known for stabbing people in the back, he also had a knack for committing misdeeds and went to great lengths to defeat and humiliate May, though he failed in his attempts every time. However, there was one person, he never messed with, Drew. Drew was his exact opposite perhaps that is why he feared him. Drew also was a shield for May, a very protective shield although Drew never openly expressed his feelings for her. Harley was waiting for the day when Drew would make the mistake of letting his guard down, and that day was today. Harley saw May and Drew dancing and to his eyes making fools of themselves. He took a small unlabeled bottle out of his pocket and smiled, the liquid it had inside would fulfill his hunger for revenge on Drew and May. He promptly took a glass of orange juice from the tray that was being passed around by the waiter, and emptied the contents of the bottle into it. “Sweet Dreams honey!” he said coldly. Harley then went towards the area where May was dancing with Robert. He called out her, being careful of not getting pushed around by the dancers and accidentally spilling the juice. May excused herself from Robert and in her usual lively manner skipped over towards the direction of the voice.

Due to the crowd, it was not until she stood in front of the person that she recognized who he was. “Harley” said May as if he was the last person she would want to see, “What do you want now?” she said looking rather firm. Harley made an innocent face and replied, “Well... First of all I want to congratulate you on your victory, even though you actually tied, then again with your boyfriend.” As he said this, May raised and eyebrow and interrupted, “What kind of game are you playing?” Harley realizing his mistake tried to sound more convincing and laughed, “GAME?! No games here May! Hehehe! I’m just trying to be friendly. What I really want to say is that I think its time we settled our differences. I apologize for all the damage I have done to you and I want us to be friends again, I can’t stand the fact that two coordinators of such high caliber like us can be such ruthless enemies. And as a gesture of friendship, HAVE THIS!” He then shoves the juice in May’s face, causing her to grab it. May, thanks to Harley’s behavior is reminded of the time when they first met; he seemed like a nice, easy going guy offering her a plate of cookies, no harm done. May made the mistake of trusting him once, would she do it again, or was Harley genuinely sorry for all his past misdeeds. She was always taught how to forget and to forgive but also to be careful of those who take advantage of others. But sadly, May was also very naïve and this time she gave in to it. She smiled, forgave him and promptly drank the juice. She gulped it down, tasted normal though a bit too sweet.

The moment, she brought her head down and released the glass from her lips, her vision went blurry and the last thing she saw before the nightmare began was Harley catching hold of her. The glass fell to the ground and shattered into a thousand pieces, the sound became nullified by the loud music that was being played.
Harley slinged May’s torso around his shoulders, pretending to be dancing with her, he left quickly towards his registered room in the stadium hall.
