What if Ash did wake up on time?

What if Ash never overslept and got one of the three starters. How do you think the Pokémon series would of played out? Without Pikachu as it's 'Mascot'.

The idea of it just popped into my head.

Hm.. yeah he would have but he would have run into other squirtles too anyway as it had happened in the future episodes.
